Titanium offers excellent strength-to-weight ratio, biocompatibility and low-coefficient of thermal expansion – attributes which make it challenging to machine with conventional sheet metal working. Its corrosion resistance makes etching impossible with standard etch-chemistry – etching by its nature a corrosive process.
